Firefox for Mobile to Come

The first mobile phone version of the popular web browser Firefox is “days away” from launch, the head of the project has told the BBC.

The browser, codenamed Fennec, will initially be available for Nokia’s N900 phone, followed by other handsets.

It is currently going through final testing and could be released before the end of the year, said Jay Sullivan at Mozilla, the group behind Firefox.

The open-source browser will be able to synchronise with the desktop version.

Software will mean that any web pages open in a user’s desktop browser will automatically open in the mobile version.

“At the end of the working day you can walk away from your computer and keep on going on your phone,” Mr Sullivan told the BBC.

Promotions Makes the World Go around

There are promotions for almost everything around us. Irrespective of what it is, there are promotions promoting something or the other for us. There are promotions for anything that you can think of. There are promotions for dresses. There are promotions for holiday resorts. There are promotions for toys. There are promotions for video games. And, there are promotions for things such as Cars and even car rentals.

All this is necessitated by the fact that we seem to live in a world where someone is going to do some promotion or the other. We seem to live in a world where most things are very similar to each other. In this world, there are lots of brands and yet, the brands are very similar to each other. They have the same properties. They have the same benefits. More and more when people see this happening all around them, they will naturally gravitate to waiting and waiting when some brand buckles down and doles out a promotion.

That is how the Orbitz promotion code car rental also is happening. Though it is a little sad that it is so prevalent and so much around us, I guess, it is here to stay.

Star Alliance Wants Immunity

United Airlines, Continental Airlines and All Nippon Airways have applied for antitrust immunity so they can work together on flights across the Pacific.

If granted, it would remove competition rules on routes between the US and Japan for the so-called Star Alliance.

The alliance already sells tickets on each other’s planes, but they want the opportunity to jointly manage schedules, prices and sales.

The request has been filed with the US Transportation Department.

Antitrust laws usually keep businesses from coordinating prices and schedules.

Immunity from those laws can be granted in certain cases, if it is decided that consumers would benefit more from businesses working together.

Credit Rating Mystery

Credit rating has always been a mystery to most of us. How does it work, how is it done etc are all deep mysteries for most of us. It would be good to learn as to how it works and what to make out of it.

Let us see how it works. How does an agency come up with a credit rating?

Actually, the process is pretty simple. Suppose you get a loan of $100 to start with. You pay it back promptly. Now, as far as that bank and that particular loan is considered, you are very worthy of next credit since you had promptly paid the first credit that you took. Now, if you have paid the loans that you took eight times out of ten, your credit score is roughly about 80%. You could be taking different kinds of loans. You could be taking loans in the form of credit card bills. The loans could be in the form of housing loans and so on.

If on a large number of people with different levels of incomes and expense levels, if you can map the scores of credit worthiness, that is what the credit worthiness of the people will be. That is where the need for such a report at a larger level is required. This is exactly what the
free credit report fulfills.

Japanese Lender Gets Extension

Japanese consumer finance company Aiful has avoided potential bankruptcy after receiving approval from its creditors to delay debt repayments.

The firm said it had met with 65 of its creditors, who agreed to delay a total of 290bn yen ($3.2bn; £2bn) of loan payments.

Shares in the company jumped almost 9% on the news.

While the debt rescheduling throws Aiful a lifeline, analysts said the outlook for the firm was bleak.

“Consumer finance firms [not affiliated with banks] lack the financial flexibility to face their big challenges - elevated levels of interest repayment, and shrinking earnings assets and lower interest spreads,” said Ehsan Syed at Fitch Ratings in Tokyo.

How to Hire the Right Car

Hiring a car is not easy. It looks so very easy. But, as many know, it is not. What are the issues there in this seemingly innocuous thing?

Many things are there. For example, when you want to hire a car, you may get a really old car. It may completely end up spoiling your trip wherever you are. Or, when you want to hire a car, you may be asked for all kinds of documents which you simply may not have at that point in time. You may end up in an accident with that car and the car may not have proper insurance coverage and you might have to pay up for it. So, anything can go wrong in such an easy thing also.

So, what do you do? You need to do something like the Italy Car Hire. Here, you are sure of the age of the car. You are sure of the mileage of the car. You are sure of the insurance coverage there. You are sure of what will happen when you take the car on hire.

When you are sure of such things, the confidence with which you can drive also goes up tremendously. That is pretty important for you, right?!

Obama Comes Down on African Nations Trade

US President Barack Obama has stopped Madagascar, Guinea and Niger from receiving trade benefits for a year.

He said they had failed to make “continual progress” in meeting US requirements for a programme designed to create jobs in Africa.

Mr Obama said that each of the countries “has experienced an undemocratic transfer of power” meaning they did not satisfy the criteria.

However, Mauritania was re-instated to the programme.

The Africa Growth and Opportunity Act was set up in 2000 to offer “tangible benefits” for African countries trying to adapt their economies to a free market.

In order to take part, countries much show they are working towards, among other things, introducing the rule of law and political pluralism, the elimination of barriers to US trade and investment and efforts to combat corruption.

In Niger, President Mamadou Tandja refused to give up office at the end of his term, while both Guinea and Madagascar have both seen military-backed coups.

Choosing the Right Defense Attorney

When somebody is in trouble with the law, naturally one thinks of a lawyer or an attorney. Whether one has really committed a crime or not, if one is suspected by the police for whatever reason, one needs to have a skillful lawyer to come out of the mess.

And, one can get into a mess for different reasons in different ways. One could have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. One could have been the friend of a criminal without knowing about it. One could have visited a crime scene without knowing about it and left his marks all over the place. One could have been wrongly framed by the real criminal. It could be for a hundred other reasons which one could not possibly list over here.

When you are in such a jam, what you need most is the Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorney who can extricate you out of this mess and bring you out.

So, how do you find out the right one for you?

There are a few ways of doing it. One, you check the reputation of the legal firm that you would like to engage. See what all they have done and what their record is. Two, check whether the senior people from that firm will be involved in representing you. Those two critical checks should help you in identifying who is to be engaged for your defense.

The sure way to destruction

Venezuela’s President Hugo Chavez has told car companies they must share their technology with local businesses or leave the country. This looks like the sure fire way to destruction for the country. Who, in his sane mind, is going to share his technology? No one would.

Mr Chavez gave the ultimatum to Toyota, Ford, General Motors and Fiat during a public address.

If the demand isn’t met, he said: “I invite you to pack up your belongings and leave. I’ll bring in the Russians, the Belorusians, the Chinese.”

Venezuela has nationalised most of the oil, metal and coffee industries.

Mr Chavez attacked Toyota in particular, saying it was not producing enough four-wheel drive vehicles, which are used for public transport, and ordered an investigation.

So far, the carmakers have not responded.

Last year, car plants in Venezuela produced 135,042 cars and trucks.

Currency controls in Venezuela mean the industry is struggling to get enough money to import parts and pay off debts.
