A British research claims that text messages develop literacy skills. The University of Coventry showed that the students who regularly messaged had improved their ability to spell. The same phonological awareness is required for text messaging and to learn correct spellings.
The children will also learn to learn new words, new sounds and syllabus by messaging. The messaging also requires understanding the original word and their sounds. The research also showed among63 pupils that regular text messaging also helped them develop skills.
The research further showed that messaging helped the children to practice reading and spelling daily. The messaging helped the children develop successful reading and spelling development. The study is still going on and is part of interim report and will be reported finally in 2011.
