The evidence of second hand smoking is seen in many children around the age of 13. The Finnish researchers had reported the study on Tuesday. The second hand smoking damages the arteries of children below 13. The damage is caused in the early childhood due to second hand smoking and its total effects are seen in the teen years.
We know passive smokers are prone to many diseases and their harmfulness. The passive smokers not only affect themselves but also the children around them. The University of Turku in Finland conducted the study and DR. Kartarina Kallio led it. The research was conducted across 494 children and the age group was of 8 to 13 years. The by product of nicotine , cotinine was found in the blood samples of these children. The children were divided into low, high, intermediate cotinine levels.
The thickness of arteries was seen in these children especially the carotid artery near the neck. The measure of the cotinine was measured using ultrasound to measure the thickness of aorta. The journal of cardiovascular quality and outcomes released the article. The unhealthier levels of cholesterol were also seen in these children.
So next time be careful and prevent the children around you from being second hand smokers.
