I used to think that atom is very very small. Now, within that, reseachers have found a method of measuring the amount of electric charge on single atoms. This has been reported in Science. Though this has been done before, it required that the atoms which were being measured have to be on the surface of the conducting material. Now, the new approach used a tiny tuning fork-like device that was deflected minuscule amounts by the attraction or repulsion of the atoms. The approach will aid in the design of devices such as solar cells.
